FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Wild Root Foods – Frequently asked questions
What are your crusts made from?
Our crusts are made from a balanced blend of 50% whole wheat flour and 50% bread flour, combined with filtered water, sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, brown sugar, and yeast.
The brown sugar serves as food for the yeast, helping it activate and develop the dough’s rich, complex flavor.
How should I cook your pizzas?
Cook from frozen.
Place a pizza stone or baking sheet on a lower oven rack and preheat to 425°F.
Let the stone or sheet heat for an additional 10–15 minutes before baking.Remove all packaging (overwrap and cardboard).
Bake:
On a pizza stone: 20–25 minutes
On a baking sheet: 25–30 minutes
or until the crust begins to brown and the center is hot.Rest for 2 minutes before slicing and serving.
Helpful Tip:
Prefer a softer, bread-like crust? Bake on the shorter end (around 25 minutes).
Like it crispier? Bake a few minutes longer, until golden brown — just don’t overdo it, or the crust will dry out.
Why do your pizzas cost more than grocery store pizzas?
Every Wild Root pizza is handcrafted from scratch, not factory-made.
We use a two-day dough process (called a poolish) that develops incredible flavor and texture. Each crust is hand-stretched, then topped generously with seasoned, roasted, or marinated vegetables.
We also make most of our sauces and spreads in-house, including:
Vegan ricotta
Basil pesto
BBQ sauce
Buffalo sauce
Roasted onion vegan cream sauce
Vegan ranch dressing
Every element is crafted to be 100% vegan, rich in flavor, and free from unnecessary oils or additives. This attention to detail takes more time and care — but the result is a pizza that truly stands apart.
Can I find your pizzas in grocery stores?
Not yet!
We currently sell directly to consumers through our website and at select Lake County, Illinois farmers markets. This allows us to maintain freshness and quality while connecting personally with our customers.
Why don’t you use imitation mozzarella or fake meats?
We’ve tasted most of the vegan cheeses and meats out there — and we weren’t impressed. Many are filled with oils and artificial ingredients that don’t deliver the flavor or texture we want.
So instead of imitation, we celebrate real vegetables — roasting, seasoning, and marinating them to create bold, satisfying flavors. Our approach reimagines what a plant-based pizza can be — vibrant, natural, and full of flavor — no substitutes needed.
Can your pizzas be shipped outside Illinois?
At this time, our Cottage Food license only allows us to sell and ship within Illinois state lines.
As we grow, we hope to expand our reach — so stay tuned for updates!
